We’ve all been sucked in by online quizzes.
You know which ones I’m talking about… The kind that Buzzfeed has dedicated an entire section of their website too. In doing my due diligence and research for this article, I discovered the following truth’s about myself:
Fascinating right? Hmm… not so much! But what is fascinating is, regardless of how strange the quiz, people keep taking them and sharing them! And top marketers have caught on. Pretty clever right?
So, why exactly do we love these personality online quizzes so much? We love to learn about ourselves of course!
When I first noticed influencers effectively using these online quizzes to generate leads and drive sales, I took great interest in them. In fact, I spent a few hours researching how to build one myself.
Right from my business launch, I understood the importance of building my email list to generate client leads. To attract leads, I decided to build a free library of downloadable worksheets and checklists.
However, in my first couple months of business, my email opt-in has had disappointing results. I knew I needed to try something different so, when an opportunity to partner with the website quiz builder Interact presented itself, I jumped at the chance.
Hey friends, if you click on the link and decide to purchase a subscription I do get a commission from your sale – thanks so much! Interact is free to try or opt for a paid plan for additional capabilities.
Here is what’s so great about the website quiz method of email list building and why I decided to give it a go:
Ok, now you get why online quizzes are so great but how do you make one?
First off, you will need to pick a delivery system for your quiz. There are various options on the market for online quizzes. The key is to look for something that works with your email marketing system so you can capture email leads.
I opted to use Interact for my quiz. It was very straightforward to create a new quiz, I loved the various quiz types and pre-built templates, plus it was a cinch to implement on my website and integrate with MailChimp.
Next, decide on a quiz topic. Be sure to consider what your audience may want to learn about themselves and how it relates to what you do. It must be relatable to your niche.
What will the final quiz results be? It’s best to pick these first so you can design your questions based on the results.
I’ll mention here that there are a few different quiz types you can build, all available through the Interact system.
The personality quiz is by far the most popular – remember people like to get insights about themselves! That’s why quizzes work so well.
Here’s where you get to have the fun coming up with your quiz questions and answer selections. Remember simple goes a long way and you can use picture answers to help the quiz be more visually appealing.
The questions should be easy to answer with the entire quiz taking a maximum of 2 minutes to complete. A total of 6-10 questions is recommended but you can go a little above this if need be. Just remember, the more questions you have the more likely people will lose patience and not complete your quiz.
Since the goal of the quiz is to capture leads, the final step before publishing your work is to integrate it with your email marketing system. For me, this meant linking Interact with MailChimp and the setup was so quick and easy!
There are a few ways you can publish your quiz. Interact makes it very simple to place it on your website by either embedding it directly on a landing page, posting a banner at the top of your website or creating a pop-up box. It’s also a great idea to publish the link on your social media feeds.
I opted to embed the quiz directly into my Showit website, on a dedicated landing page.
