Today, I’m taking a look back to the end of summer with my Studio Spotlight September 2018 edition.
This project was near & dear to my heart. Belle at Art 2 Detour childcare used to watch my son and they still have a special bond.
Because of that, I wanted her website to showcase just how amazing and nurturing she is. I think the end result is pretty great! You can read more about the project over here.
Tianna at The Base Coat had some gorgeous photos taken of her salon. To really give her website visitors a taste of what it’s like to be in her boutique, I updated the background of her website to showcase her pedicure stations.
I think the change is stunning and completely transforms her home page! You feel like you are inside her salon. It just goes to show how one small detail can really elevate a design.
We also refreshed her Instagram profile by adding on-brand Insta Story highlight covers, mimicking the splash of nail polish in her logo.
Client Barb from Colour Tech Hair Studio launched her new WordPress website! For this project, I customized a pre-purchased WordPress template and the final result looks great!
For more of the behind-the-scenes details have a read here.
I attended my first local networking event for ladies in the South Surrey/White Rock community, Sip + Slay 2.0. The evening was hosted by some incredible female business leaders in my neighbourhood.
I have to say, it was great to meet so many inspiring and motivated entrepreneurs in person. Working for yourself has so many benefits, but it can also feel isolating and lonely at times.
Events like this one are so energizing and motivating. Can’t wait for the next one! If you live in the area, be sure to join their Facebook group.
I have to admit, Insta Stories was one of those “shoulds” that had me freaked out! If you follow me on Instagram, you know I don’t show my face a lot and the idea of filming Insta Stories is not my concept of fun.
But, I know the brands I connect with most are the ones that put themselves out there the most. They show up as they are on Insta Stories so I finally did too… well sort of!
Next step – actually showing my face. I’m sure it will happen eventually but for now, I’m content sharing my work in a fun, graphics sort of way.

I started this book just after finishing Oprah & Deepak Chopra’s meditation series The Energy of Attraction. It turns out it was a really nice follow up as I noticed a lot of similar parallels in their messages.
A lot of what Jen discusses in the book is about mindset and the power of attraction. You get back what you are putting out, like attracts like, etc. These are the same principles Oprah discusses in the meditation series. Of course, Jen’s focus is on how we think about money, but it just reinforces for me the importance – and power – of our thoughts.
Isn’t that an enlightening way to think about our worries? It’s so true… how often are we manifesting the things we fear most because we spend coutless hours worrying about them!
I love this quote. It resonates so much with me right now as I near the end of my thirties. There is no more time to waste if I truly want to live my life to it’s fullest and realize my true potential.

Did you catch the new podcast Work Party by Joclyn Johnson?
I haven’t been able to go to a Create & Cultivate event yet and it’s still on my entrepreneur bucket list but this podcast is the next best thing! Joclyn interviews incredible ladies on topics that are highly relevant to the female entrepreneur.
It offers the Create & Cultivate experience through your earbuds. Although now I want to go to one of their events even more! Have a listen and let me know what you think.
I especially loved episode 1 with Alli Webb from drybar. Particularly her and Jocyln’s comments about the importance of branding!
How powerful are these quotes?
This is so true – if you want people to love what you do, first you need to capture their attention and a strong brand will do just that! Also, your brand sets the stage for what customers can expect from you. Both Alli and Jocyln put it best when they said,
Alli, of course, is speaking about the client experience at drybar and Joclyn about the Create & Cultivate event experience, but the same thing holds true with online spaces. Your online presence sets the stage for the rest of the client experience.
