Social Media has become a daily habit for most of us. Because of this, an important part of any business marketing strategy is social media. Your ideal customers are using it so how do you connect with them in a meaningful way?
Today, I’m sharing 5 tips to help you build an effective social media strategy.
5 Tips for an Effective Social Media Strategy
Tip #1 – Social media is an introduction or a handshake.
Your content should be helpful and touch on topics that will prepare your clients for working with you. Remember, social media is an introduction to your business and offerings. Try to think about what you would say about your brand to someone you just met at a cocktail party or a networking event.
Tip #2 – Use social media to position yourself as an expert.
Don’t be afraid to give by sharing your knowledge. If you can help your followers gain small wins, they will reward you by supporting your business in the future. Talk about the things you are an expert at and come from a place of “who can I help” today.
Tip #3 – Consistency keeps you top of mind.
On average, it takes 6 to 8 touches with your brand before someone will be ready to make a purchase. Regularly posting to social media will keep you top of mind. When they are ready to purchase your product or service, you’ll be the first person they think of. So, make a schedule and stick to it!
For me, success has come from Instagram when I started posting daily. This may look different for your business so test it out and see what works.
Tip #4 – It lets your followers feel connected to your business.
Social Media is a great opportunity for showing behind the scenes of your business. Remember, doing business with someone new is scary. If you show what your client experience is like on social media, it gives your followers the opportunity to become familiar with your process. The next step will be that much easier for them to take!
Tip #5 – Social Media should guide customers to your website.
This is such an important one! You have no control over your social media channels. The only control you have is over your own online real estate – in other words, your website.
So how do you guide followers to your website? This does require some creativity as social media is designed to keep people on the app. It’s harder than ever to get followers to click your link or visit your website.
Optimizing your profiles is a great start. Be sure to link to your website and take advantage of all the contact fields available. It helps if you can give your followers some value for clicking through to your link. Freebies can go a long way, especially if they give a small win and help solve an immediate need your customer may be struggling with.
On Instagram, I’ve discovered the most powerful part of the app is Insta Stories. The great benefit to Insta Stories is it encourages followers to respond via direct message (or DM). This one on one interaction is so powerful for getting to know your followers.
