Working with a web designer should be a fun and uplifting experience.
It often means you’ve been in your business for a few years and are starting to see great success. You have a clear understanding of your clientele and need a website that hones in on their pain points and desires. You’re ready for the investment and are looking to find the best fit.
But, not all web designers are created equal.
Here are 4 red flags to look out for when hiring a web designer:
The Price Is Really Low
Good web designers understand their value and the impact of their work on your bottom line. If you’re looking for a website to increase leads and revenue, then don’t go with the cheapest option. It’s true when they say, you get what you pay for.
They Have a Poorly Designed Website
The clients that hire me are the ones that love my website and my body of work. This is by design. I intentionally showcase the type of work I want to receive more of. Check it out here! So, if you don’t like the designer’s website or portfolio, you won’t be happy with your product.
They’re Hard To Communicate With
A successful web design project relies on regular communication to ensure the final website is one you love. If the designer is difficult to communicate with from the get-go, walk away.
Project Details Are Vague
What’s included in your project? At the onset, do you know what deliverables are included and what the process looks like? Is there a contract in place? If anything is vague, don’t move forward until you get all the details.
A bad partnership is a frustrating experience for you and the designer. Typically, one red flag is the sign of more to come. So, do your homework and listen to your intuition when engaging with potential candidates.
It all starts with setting the tone for what's to come. Define your style, attract your ideal customer and create enduring connections with your audience.
